TRI-STATE BIODIESEL
SUPPORTING RECOVERY FROM SUPER-STORM SANDY

Tri-State Biodiesel is proud to be a part of the recovery efforts in The Rockaways, Breezy Point, Red Hook Brooklyn and beyond.

In addition to offering discounted basement pump-out service to NY’ers that are literally under water, TSB has been the exclusive diesel fuel supplier of FEMA and the National Guard in their efforts to aid the recovery after Hurricane Sandy.  The agencies are distributing food and emergency supplies and supplying fuel to first responders and emergency service vehicles that are working in the area.  TSB’s clean burning biodiesel fuel is also providing heating and power for the emergency camps build to house the out of town responders and to provide temporary shelter to those who have been displaced by the storm.

We salute all the hard-working service persons, first responders and volunteers that are giving so much of themselves to help those who have lost so much in this catastrophic storm.  May our region have a fast recovery and be strengthened by our experience.

TSB maintains biodiesel fuel supply throughout the recovery

As many of you know from direct experience, in the wake of Hurricane Sandy, there has been a serious shortage of fuel supply in our immediate region.  All these long lines and gas station closings are mostly a result of damage and flooding to many of area’s the fuel terminals.  Fuel terminals are like gas stations for fuel distributors, and because much of the fuel at these terminals arrives by barge, they are mostly on the water, and therefore, were very vulnerable to damage from Sandy’s unprecedented storm-surge.

Because TSB has a diversified sourcing for all of the biodiesel and diesel fuel it sells, our company was able to continue providing fuel to our customers on a daily basis right thru the storm and recovery, even as other distributors were running on empty.  We are proud to have been there for our customers (ambulance fleets, food distributors and the like) even through the hard times of this difficult crisis.

If you know someone who is having a hard time sourcing on/off road diesel fuel and/or heating oil, please have them give us a call today for immediate supply of locally produced, low carbon biodiesel fuel!  1-800-571-7171 A

PLEASE SUPPORT THE GROWTH OF BIODIESEL

Now that the election is settled, we have a real chance of seeing legislation pass that can really help build and strengthen the biodiesel industry.  In order to see this happen I’m asking you to please join me in sending a version of the letter pasted below to your local representative.

As always thank you all for all your support and we promise to continue to work our tails off to bring this great clean-air alternative fuel to the NYC market.

Best,

Brent Baker and the Tri-State Biodiesel Team

The Honorable XX

Dear Representative/Senator XX:

I’m writing to urge your immediate support for an extension of the biodiesel tax incentive. This tax incentive is a proven job creator that is critically important to the U.S. biodiesel industry and specifically to my business/organization/employer, INSERT BUSINESS NAME, in CITY, STATE. Its expiration at the end of 2011 has already disrupted the momentum our industry generated last year in producing a record of nearly 1.1 billion gallons nationwide. Extending it as soon as possible will help the industry regain that momentum and continue creating jobs, while also reducing fuel prices for consumers.

In its short history, the biodiesel tax incentive has been incredibly effective in helping to stimulate the domestic production of biodiesel. When the incentive was enacted in 2004, the U.S. produced 25 million gallons of biodiesel. Last year, the industry had record production of nearly 1.1 billion gallons, with plants in nearly every state in the country.

That production supported more than 40,000 jobs while reducing America’s dependence on imported petroleum and making us less vulnerable to global petroleum markets. It reduced air pollution and cut greenhouse gas emissions, all while generating some $700 million in federal, state and local tax revenues, according to a recent economic study.

The industry’s growth is to be applauded, particularly in such a weak economy, but it should not cloud the fact that biodiesel remains a young and vulnerable industry. This year, we have seen our industry’s growth stall after the tax incentive expired on Dec. 31, 2011, and our production will likely be down from last year.

With the ongoing economic downturn, now is not the time to allow that to happen. Under projected expansion by 2015, with strong federal policy, biodiesel is expected to support more than 74,000 jobs, $4 billion in income, and some $7.3 billion in GDP, according to the economic study. But that growth will be severely jeopardized by the expiration of the tax incentive.

Now, as much as ever, the biodiesel industry needs stability and support to continue growing. Thank you in advance for your consideration and for your attention to this critical issue.

Sincerely,
